What are
the options for treatment?
Mandibular Advancement
Splints (MAS) are customised mouth pieces made for each patient to
be worn at night time to treat snoring.
There are various options available:
1.
Level One - Economy Option
Snoreshield
is a simple preformed boil and bite mouth piece which helps some snorers.
2.
Level Two
Snoresolve
is clinically proven, custom-fitted for comfort but does not allow
any adjustments for effectiveness.
3.
Gold Standard
The Sleepwell
is the most clinically proven. Custom-fitted to offer maximum comfort
and retention and allows adjustments to optimise effectiveness.
4.
Losing weight
Loss of weight can reduce or stop snoring and there are numerous other
health benefits but it is a gradual process.
5.
Snoring surgery
There are a number of snoring surgery options but they are not always
successful and can be extremely painful. We recommend this as the
last-resort option to stop snoring.
6.
Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP)
CPAP is the gold standard for sufferers of severe obstructive sleep
Apnoea, which is a far more serious form of breathing disorder affecting
about 5% of snorers. This is where some snorers stop breathing and
start again a few seconds later accompanied by a choke, gasp or snort.
Every time we stop breathing, known as 'Apnoea', our bodies are starved
of oxygen. CPAP treatment is not recommended for the treatment of
simple snoring.
Where
do I go from here?
The first step in assessing the severity of your (or your partner's)
snoring problem is to complete a pre-screening questionnaire. This
can be done as part of your initial consultation with your dentist
OR a free online assessment done for you. Just click on the link below
and follow the instructions for ''free online snoring assessment''.

Once this is
done, you can have your treatment started. It will involve a consultation
and set of dental impressions to fabricate the custom fitted splint.
A second visit is needed to have the MAS fitted and a demonstration
on how to make the adjustments.
If you have any
questions or would like to book an appointment for a consultation,
please contact the practice.
